A Sense of Style

Ahhh Fashion..... not defined by natural beauty but by the ability to create a mood....to express your identity... to with colors and finess create a sense of awe and fascination.

There are certain components that are necessary in order to create any fabulous look. Master these and you will look amazing. They take work at first but soon become as natural as breathing.

1. As a housewife, keep your home lovely. No matter how beautiful you look... if your home is a disaster it will reflect and people will think... sloppy. I know it hurts but honestly, don't you? The lovelier you are, the MORE people look for flaws in you. Don't give them that opportunity. Be lovely and have a lovely home. Same goes for being able to cook, entertain etc.... keep up on my blogs in each of these areas. Keep practicing. It won't come right away but it will come with practice. It's about keeping up with it. When you slip back into your old ways, pull out your routine and start up again. Keep on doing this and you 'will' train yourself into new habbits. Just don't give up.

2. Personality- Think of any beautiful woman.... now imagine her with a mean disposition. How pretty is she now? Not at all. In fact, some say pretty women with ugly personalities are far uglier than plain women. The easiest way to be pretty? Think of others. Always make the person around you feel important. Think of them. Care about them. Love them. Think of them as more important than yourself. Do kind things for them. Be attentive, caring, considerate.... pick up a book of etiquette for more details on just what goes into manners. Be lovely because you seem to care and love others. There isn't a pretty woman out there who doesn't need this advice.

3. Charm - Yes, the popular statement of the women's lib seems to be, "others should accept me as I am."  And well, sometimes that's easier said than done. There are a few kind people who are loving to all but even they have to work at it. The honest truth is if you are sloppy, rude, selfish, stinky, mean, etc.. people won't naturally like you as well. And if your posture is a mess, you act more like  a man than a woman and your voice is shrill, you won't be considered lovely. Your mannerisms define you more than anything. People make more judgements on you based on your nonverbal communication than anything you will say. They watch how you walk, they watch how you speak, they watch how you eat, they look at how dirty you are, they smell you, they watch how you look at and treat others, they watch how you keep your home. etc. To be truly lovely, seek to be pleasant in all of these areas. Work on being "charming." And if you succeed at being lovely, you will be attacked....work at being pleasant in response. Work on your voice - make it sound lovely and soothing. Work on your temperament so that it is calm and gentle. Work on your spirit so that it is lovely and sweet.  Be clean an tidy if you are to be around others - even if you don't feel like it. Keep plucked, groomed, clean and brushed. An old old book I love said fashion begins with a bar of soap. It truly does. As much as it may be easier on ourselves to let such things slide, the person next to you will have to stare at that long black hair on your chin all day or smell your decision not to wear deodorant. Be pleasant. Especially if you desire to be lovely. Keep your clothes neat and pressed. Set aside enough time in the morning to groom thoroughly and be clean and groomed everywhere.Keep your purse neat - believe it or not, this is a pet peave of men.. they often look at your purse to see what kind of homemaker you'd be. It's sadly quite accurate and will ruin your image as will sloppy shoes and unkempt nails. Grooming takes time but it's necessary- just like housework. Your body is the home you live in most of the time. Keep it up and well painted. Don't let it get shabby and sloppy. Last but not least... posture. Learn to glide not tromp. Stand up or you will look like a hunchback. Eat with delicacy - don't make noises or take to large of bites. Don't burp or smack gum. Be the elegance you wish to achieve. Start working at it now. Use a mirror to check your posture and practice daily... your back will be sore at first. A corset may help for a time. Work to sit, stand, walk, stand up gracefully, gently and lovely.
4. Style - As a lady, feminine is truly best. People long for feminine women both men and women. Not so much trampy as lovely women. Learn to be lovely. Learn what colors make you appear soft and gentle. Use the color wheel to match your outfits... like design choose 2-3 colors... one neutal, one bright and if you like a 3rd to compliment the bright color.  When you do your makeup - after dressing... hold your eye color palette up to your face in front of the mirror and choose the color that matches your outfit and complexion best that day. It will look best if you do this. The same with lipcolor.... etc. Make sure everything matches. Choose a nail color and shoe the same way... and jewelry. Make sure your handbag looks right with your outfit. Make sure your smell fits the aura of your look. Make sure your disposition matches and always try to do something that is eyecatching or lovely.... a flower in the hair or a delicate bracelet. A lovely belt... your favorite boots etc.

5. My favorite... LEARN TO SEW!!  Even if you know nothing... go to a fabric store... look for buttons you love, glue on sequins or feathers or rhinestones... What can you do to take that outfit your not so crazy about and make it you? Do you have a dress that doesn't fit in the most flattering way... ? sign up for a sewing lesson and take it with you. Learn to sew, alter, mend etc. Learn to make your handbags sparkle and your least favorite shirt more stylish. Learn to take old clothes and make them new. Learn to sew! You won't have to depend on what's in stores anymore and it will allow you so much more expression with style. You can sew curtains to match your bedspread.. you can sew handbags to match your dress... and it will cost less and be must less annoying than trying to track down matching items in stores with clothes your less than crazy about.

I have much to do today so I best be going. I hope you have a lovely weekend. I am going to share a bread recipe I made the other day for hot dog buns and it doesn't require rising!!! My husband adored it. I used it for egg sandwiches the next day and it took almost no time to prepare. It was lovely. I may add a bit of flavor to your likely after your first batch but it is really lovely and easy for those of you wanting to try your first batch of bread. :)
